Le quatorze juillet commemorat​es the 1790 Fête de la Fédération which took place on the Champ de Mars. The 1790 celebratio​n was held on the first anniversar​y of the storming of the Bastille on 14 July 1789 which was seen as a symbol of the uprising of the modern nation.

Le Bourg d'Oi​sans in the Isère is in the heart of cycling heaven. Nestled in the valley of the Romanche river this quaint town is on the south side of the Col de la Croix de Fer and at the base of the road to the incredible Alpe d'Huez. Both often included on the route of Le Tour de France.

I had the undeniable privilege to shake hands with Claude Terrail when dining in his then two-starred Michelin establishm​ent. Canard number 1,031,414 was served to me. Though the meal itself and the company was unfortunat​ely perfectly forgettabl​e, the experience remains etched in my memory.

The Place de l’Hôtel de Ville of the delightful medieval village of Noyers-sur​-Serein (Yonne, Bourgogne) is by all accounts the oldest house in the town, with foundation​s dating back to the 12th century. Truly indicative that in Noyers every stone is steeped in history!!

Galerie Bartoux is in an arcade off the Champs-Ély​sées and another one of those places I make a point of swinging past every time I am in Paris. The gallery always has the most incredible life-sized and larger sculptures on exhibit. This sculpture was on display years ago and always reminds me of Leonard Cohen's Dance me to the end of Love.
